offline account

Inspiron 3030 Small Desktop

Inspiron 3030 Small Desktop

Hi.  New Windows 11 machine and I want to setup an offline account - I don't want to be signed into my Microsoft account.  Dell has an article "How to Convert a Windows 11 or 10 Microsoft Account to a Local Account."  It says hold the Windows key and type r.  Then enter netplwiz, then select Add.  When I do that the Add is greyed out and cannot be selected. I also tried "Add Accounts" under Control Panel and it will not allow me to add an account.  It says that I cannot add an account because I am the Administrator. I have also read about how to accomplish this by reinstalling Windows. I would rather not do that as I finally everything transferred to this machine and all programs installed and working. Any help out there?

Don't know which Windows 11 version you have but this is the steps to add a local account (offline account) for the latest Windows 11 24H2:

  • *  Open Settings: Click the Start button, then select "Settings".
  • *  Navigate to Accounts: Click on "Accounts".
  • *  Go to Family & other users: Click on "Family & other users".
  • *  Add a new account: Click on "Add account" next to "Add other user".
  • *  Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information
  • *  Choose "Add a user without a Microsoft account
  • *  Enter Account Details:
*Enter a username for the new local account.
*Optionally, enter a password and password hint.

   *  Click "Next" to complete the process.

Edited to clean up text format.
