msiexec issues - windows 11 installer broken on my G5 desktop
I can not update or uninstall most programs in windows. msiexec can not be run.
Even windows support has failed to help so far and has done all the usual checks. It appears to be some update to windows 11 that breaks Microsoft installer and clearly it is not all PCs affected.
So is there something up on the Dell side?

So I tried all the official solutions and also windows re-install from iso, none worked!
Only option was to make a bootable windows usb and start from scratch, which fixed it.
I have had 2 major issues with Windows on this Dell PC, hard to tell if just windows, or a hardware/driver/Dell-based issue but not something I am used to with PCs in general - normally there are zero major issues.
Using a second Microsoft account, to the logged in user, for some things did seem something MS was unprepared for, compared to Google at least.

andyzed,
You can click here to follow the information in the youtube video to hopefully resolve the issue. First, try these steps to see if they will work. If so, you can bypass the youtube video.
1) Go to search and type Applications & Features.
2) Look on top where it says "Choose where to get apps", select "Everywhere"

Hi
OK but I don't tend to follow random youtube videos - are you recommending this from experience?
this affects uninstalls also

There's an official page here with some troubleshooting tips. It links to an automatic repair tool, which unfortunately isn't blessed for Windows 11... but the other tips offered should be applicable.
I really like recommending the "repair install" technique for stubborn Windows problems, and I think there's a good chance it will work here. Since it preserves all your settings, I imagine if the cause is deemed a "setting" it might leave the problem in place, but it's fairly quick and reversible.

Glad the reinstall worked. In best Monday-morning quarterback style... I think "Reset my PC" would have worked as well, even with the option to preserve your files. I understand the preference to start from scratch, though, and installing from USB goes very quickly.
I would estimate the chance it was due to a hardware problem at zero percent. Not that you did anything wrong; Windows just seems prone to such problems occasionally.
