McAfee Virus Scan - Device file missing

Hi anybody who reads this.

I've uninstalled McAfee Virus scan version 4 which I bought with my Dell package in 2000.  I've installed and then uninstalled the McAfee Internetsecuritysuite.  Received a message that a device file is missing and that system.ini refers to it.  Reference given is windows/system/vshinit.vxd.  Tried to re-install the security suite and all of the components reinstall except for the virus scan.  Can anyone help please?  All advice welcome!
