Issue updating BIOS to verson 1.8.0 (Mobile Precison 5690)
Mobile Precision 5690
When updating the BIOS to version 1.8.0 with the laptop connected to power via the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port (on the right side of the laptop), an error occurs during the update process.
After rebooting, the BIOS appears to have been successfully updated to version 1.8.0; however, the USB port no longer functions (neither for charging nor for data transfer).
The issue is resolved by performing the firmware update again while connecting the power to the Thunderbolt 4 ports.

@Chandrashekhar_Bakker no need. They changed mine. Problem repeated when updating firmware. The issue is resolved by performing the firmware update again while connecting the power to the Thunderbolt 4 ports.

Hi Avalero,
I am also facing same issue.
Current BIOS version is 1.8.0, when we will get new firmware update? or we have to force update?
You say the issue resolved, could you please share all steps you followed.
Thank you.

I am having this problem as well.
In order to perform the bios update again, I need to download the v1.8 BIOS.
However, the Dell Support Drivers & Downloads site [*1] is currently only offering the v1.6.0 BIOS. There is NO bios v1.8 download!!
Where can we get the v1.8 bios?

Hmmm, my previous attempt to reply seems to have been lost. Trying again....
It appears the v1.8.0 BIOS download has been removed from the Dell Support Drivers & Downloads site.
Where can we download the v1.8.0 BIOS from?

@avalero
Thanks for the link... however, that is the v1.8 bios for xps 15 (9550).
It is probably not safe to try to flash the bios for 9550 machine onto a 5690 machine, right?

@pfruth I am almost sure it is the same firmware, but I could not say it for certain

I opened a support ticket.
Dell was able to provide me a copy of the v1.8 bios update (since it has been demoted from the site).
I was able to re-flash the v1.8 bios update after charging the battery to greater than 50% then disconnecting the AC adapter during the flash procedure.

@pfruth - I have opened a support ticket, but am getting nowhere with Dell's internal bureaucracy (It may be due to the holidays, but Dell support seems just as inefficient as when I worked for them over 15 years ago, AND my employer pays for "ProSupportPlus" [eyeroll]). SO.. I decided to fix it myself.. The BIOS update was installed via Dell's Support Assist, which (you can tell from logs) uses the dl.dell.com site. So even if support wasn't being forthright with giving me a link, the fact that the Support Assist tool incorrectly installed it means it is still online - logs in this location: C:\ProgramData\Dell\UpdateService\Temp\PrecedenceCatalog.xml
This provides the folder structure that can be pieced together. As I surmised, the software is online.
@avalero this is the full link Precision 5690 BIOS version 1.8.0 which worked.
PLEASE NOTE!! -- Your system should be charged as close to 100% as possible. Apply the update WITH NO POWER SUPPLY ATTACHED. The BIOS update does take several minutes. Pay attention to what it says about BitLocker. YOU WILL NEED TO RUN THE EXECUTABLE WITH THE /forceit FLAG FROM AN ADMIN SHELL!
I believe the culprit is exemplified by the version report when the BIOS does not install properly
and when it installs correctly:
I hope this helps someone
