Should I upgrade this laptop to Window 11?

Given my own experiences upgrading 3 months ago and also last week (on XPS and 7760 laptops), I do NOT suggest upgrading any system to Windows-11. There are many bugs in Windows11 and I suspect issues with Dell BIOS with Windows-11.

I strongly suggest you check other community postings for other peoples’ experience s before you try.

The good news is that Microsoft has fixed the many earlier problems in returning to Windows-10, so if you do have problems on Windows-11, then it should be easier to back out of the upgrade.

Make sure you do a backup before you try upgrading, and I would strongly suggest getting help from ProSupport to monitor the upgrade. Good luck.

The 7520 is not supported by Windows 11 per Microsoft. Now can you install Windows 11, certainly using the media creation tool found here. Not knowing your system specs per TPM 2.0, amount of RAM, CPU, etc. it may run fine. But MS has warned, though has yet to carry through, that down the line they will quit supplying updates to unsupported systems. And @MTNShootR has some good points about upgrading. You have a rather old system and Windows 10 is a stable platform and will be supported until 2025. By that time you will be ready for a new system that supports Windows 11 ( or whatever OS is current at that time).

Keep in mind, from my experience I was not able to install Win 11 over Win 10 so I had to do a clean install.  If you wait until the new Win 11 is released (maybe as soon as two weeks), we may have more info on how follow-on upgrades will work.

You can upgrade to windows 11 if you computer falls into the windows 11 eligible list

How to check for windows 11 eligible PC's

1. Dell computers tested for upgrade to Windows 11

2. How to Run the PC Health Check App for Microsoft Windows 11 Upgrades

The Win 11 Insider group is starting to show Win 11 (22H2) will not upgrade on a non-qualified system.  I have not completed my testing but that is what I was expecting.

I have not yet tried doing another clean install but most folks will not really want to clean install their systems over a 6 month to a year time frame.

Apologies for the typo mistake in my last reply.

Interesting as I have an old E5430 Latitude and am in the Beta Insider program and it upgraded to 22H2 just fine. But it would not surprise me if MS decides to start pulling the plug on unsupported hardware.
