Depending on which password is required, BIOS or Account or ???? is something DELL may be able to help the owner of the Laptop,which may or may not be chargeable.

Microsoft Account:
If your Windows login is tied to a Microsoft account, you can reset your password online. Visit the Microsoft password reset page from another device, select "I forgot my password," and follow the prompts to receive a security code and set a new password.

Please can you confirm the Make Model and OS, along with any configuration details like touch screen, backlit keyboard, SFF or tower etc etc.  BUT NOT ANYTHING PERSONAL like email, service tag or phone numbers.
