How do I make content occupy 100% of my external monitor screen?

Hi

I have a Dell Precision lap top (5500 model) with an external display ...

When the external display is connected, it mirrors the contents of my laptop screen, however it doesn't take up the full screen (there are black borders on the left and right).  I have verified my scaling is at 100%.  Is there any way to disable the laptop display and only use the extenral monitor or make the external monitor occupy 100% of the viewable screen width?

You need to boot into Safe Mode, to reset your Scale factor to 100%, because your video card does not load in Safe Mode, you will be able to see enough to do that .. . Shut your PC down Start your PC, just as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down Do this twice
