E5470 can't two finger tap to right click?

Hi guys,

I have an E5470 with a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro N and the latest Alps touchpad driver and I am unable to two finger tap to right click. To be fair, if I rapidly two finger tap about 10 times I get a right click window pop up however shy of that it just doesn't work. Its occurred despite reinstalling Windows x2. The problem goes away if I use the default Windows touchpad driver.

Does anyone have any clues as how to solve this? Its rather annoying.

I opened a case with Dell and after several hours on the phone requested an escalation. I received that escalation today in the form of a call from Brad. He was able to narrow the issue down to a driver version right away and I can confirm that if you block the drivers from Windows Update in Windows 10 and downgrade your driver from Alps 10.1207.101.113 to 10.1207.101.103, the functionality is returned. Be aware that there might be bugs in the older driver, but in my 5 minutes of testing it worked great! As time allows I hope to test other versions of the driver, but getting it working is a huge step forward. You'll have to go to downloads.dell.com/.../latitude-e5470-laptop.html to find the older driver fastest (search for "Touchpad Driver" or the version number listed above). Hoping to hear back from Brad on what they found and am hopeful a fixed driver will be available soon.

So using the default Windows Touchpad driver is a workaround. What are the negatives to using this Windows driver rather than the Dell Multi-Touch Touchpad driver?

The problem with using the default Windows driver is that I don't get any support for guestures which I use quite regularly to multitask. The default windows driver also acts quite clunky in the way that it scrolls compared to the dell driver.

All we can do is hope other E5470 owners post with the same issue to see if it is a systemic issue to the platform and operating system or if the issue is only present on your laptop.

Hi Chris,

So far that makes 3 of us with the same touchpad driver issue.

How would we go about raising this issue further so it can be resolved?

Thanks,

Tyler

Same issue - I really miss this feature - I had it on my previous Lenovo laptop....

CE_Daryl, thank you! This fixed up my new/refurb Latitude 5570, as well. The 2-finger right-click was working just fine... until I dutifully updated all of the drivers. With your help, I installed xxx.103 of the driver right over the existing one (got a dialog to confirm installing an older driver), and all is well.

i have exact the same issue on my dell 7370 (Win 10 64 bit). With the driver 113 2 finger-tap doesnt work. With 110 2 finger-tap works, but 2 finger scrolling is not as smooth as with 113:(

i will try driver 103...
