DELLS Windows XP keeps shutting off

I was given a Dell windows XP desktop and surprisingly it still works the fan doesn't sound like it's going to start flying away or anything unusual but what isn't working is the fact when I turn on it'll load and boot up then turn off. I tried switching the power cord but no luck I'm not sure if it's overheating which is unlikely because it doesn't stay in for more than ten minutes.

If anyone knows what's going on I'd love help I'd really love to go through this computer and try and relieve memories

Hi

CPU overheating can happen quite quickly.

So CMOS coin cell and CPU thermal paste are quite prone to degradation, so may need replacing.

Please can you confirm the Make Model and OS, along with any configuration details like touch screen, backlit keyboard, SFF or tower etc etc.

It sounds like your Dell Windows XP desktop is experiencing a hardware-related shutdown issue, likely caused by a failing power supply, bad motherboard capacitors, or CPU overheating. Even though the fan sounds normal, internal components like the PSU or heat sink may be compromised due to age. Try opening the case, re-seating the RAM and cables, and inspecting the motherboard for any bulging capacitors. Boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 at startup to see if it stays on longer, which could indicate a software issue. If it still shuts down quickly, test with a different power supply or boot from a USB to rule out hard drive or OS corruption.
