Dell machines for business cant accept images or backups - Windows

Hello all!

We have a very annoying issue that is starting to make us consider other options than Dell, for the businesses we support.

When we get a new Dell, if we load an image to the machine or a backup to a machine, it will brick the device.

The hard drive can be seen in the Bios under M.2 slot but not as a boot option or as a drive for trying to recover windows, etc. It just no longer exists other than the one spot which is M.2 information slot.

When trying to boot, it'll just go to one of the PXE boot options but even if you use PXE to send an image, it fails due to no drive found.

If you use Windows Media tool, its empty. It is like the drive no longer exists.

There were two machines that did see the drive if you went into Windows media manager but even if you could find the boot.ini, it would not boot to it. Deleted all other boot options, still nothing.

Does anyone know how to get around this? So far this has occurred on all the dells we have received since June of 2022. This has occurred with about 25 machines.

We have gone through the bios settings and changed all the settings in bios one by one to see if any bring the drive back as an option but it does not seem to do so. Assuming Dell adds a mac or GUID filter to prevent IT from being able to work on their devices maybe? If so, anyone know how to get a copy of it?

Thank you

Here is how to back up your Dell computer in Windows 10 via Dell Backup and Recovery:

Step 1. Connect a hard drive or USB drive to the Windows 10 Dell computer you want to back up the system.

Step 2. Launch Dell Backup and Recovery and head over to the backup section.

Step 3. You will be prompted to select a backup location and set up your external drive. Now, click on "Continue" to proceed.
