dell latitude 5480 : flickering amber light
Hello everyone ,
i have been experiencing these past two months a problem with my laptop Dell latitude 5480 , the problem started in late june 2022 , when i left my laptop charging until i noticed that instead of the regular white light that turns on when the laptop is charging , there was this flickering amber light , similar to to the one you get when the battery is critically low , except my battery is more than halfway full and my laptp is plugged in .
i then unplugged it , the annoying amber light went out , i tried to turn my laptop on but it wouldnt turn on until i plugged it back , the amber light came back , the laptop works fine - plugged in - except that the batter isnt charging despite holding charge .
so, my laptop now only works plugged in ...
i tried to look up if somebody had experienced a similar problem before but couldnt find any , then i ran the diagnostic and found out that i should replace my battery , i'm still not convinced since my battery had never had any problems before , it used to hold charge for up to 15 continious hours , it cant just die all of a sudden .
but still i looked up for replacement but couldnt find anything in my country that is as good as the one i have .
please if anyone has any idea what the problem is , or where i could find a good replacement battery online , leave a comment and thank you for reading my complaint

Dell laptops have different types of onboard visual (LED) and audible (beep code) diagnostic indicators to help detect the symptoms of failed hardware components. Most of these symptoms are related to a failure to power on, complete power on self-test (POST), screen issue, or an issue with booting into the operating system.

Your laptop is six years old, so it is normal that the battery is near end of life and won't hold a charge for long.
You can test the battery:
Open an Administrator CMD prompt (CMD, run as Administrator).
Paste this command, and then press Enter:
powercfg /batteryreport
That will show a figure for the designed battery capacity (when new) and the current ("full charge") capacity.
You can see from your laptop's specifications that there were three sizes of battery. The larger sizes may prevent you from having a 2.5" drive.
Dell has batteries available for the 5480.
The next most reliable place is Parts-People, which sells genuine Dell parts. They also have batteries in stock for your laptop.
Whenever touching components or working inside a computer, wear a grounded wrist strap, also called anti-static wrist strap, ESD wrist strap, or ground bracelet. It's a cheap and sensible precaution. Rest the laptop on an anti-static mat or at least a reasonable alternative such as corrugated cardboard.
