Converting to Windows 11

I am currently on a 4 year old Inspiron with Windows 10 and Office 2019 and am dreading the conversion to Windows 11 and upgrading to Office 365 or higher.  Would I be better off buying a new Inspiron fully loaded with the new OS and MS software?

That will depend on your needs.  If the Inspiron met your daily computer needs, just run Windows update to get the option for Windows 11 upgrade.  Otherwise, buying/customizing a new system of your choice.

If your current Inspiron meets the Windows 11 requirements (TPM 2.0, UEFI boot, supported 8th‑gen Intel or equivalent), you can upgrade for free—just use Windows Update or the Installation Assistant. Dell has a full guide here: https://www.dell.com/en-us/lp/dt/windows-11

Otherwise, buying a new Inspiron with Windows 11 pre-installed can save you a lot of hassle—especially since Office 365 and future updates are geared toward Windows 11.

Bottom line:

  • Compatible with current model + willing to upgrade OS & Office: Upgrade in place.

  • Not compatible or you'd rather have a fresh start: A new laptop may be the smoother path.

Hope that helps you decide!
