Can't Update to Windows 11 23H2
XPS 8950
Tried Windows Update but 23H2 update doesn't show. Followed instructions for a manual update and received the following message - "This update is not applicable to your computer."
Anybody else have this issue or know why it's not applicable. Is there a solution?

1) Run the following from elevated command prompt:
DISM /online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
2) then run the following from the elevated command prompt:
sfc /scannow

@Tomel - Are you running Win 11 22H2 now?
Has the Win 11 22H2 update KB5031354 been installed on your PC? Check in Windows Update>View update history.
This update needs to be installed before you can get the full 23H2 update.

@RoHe Yes, it shows in the Update history. Was installed on 10/11/2023. Latest update installed was KB5031455, the 2023-10 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems. Settings/System/About shows my OS build as:22621.2506 and shows Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22677.1000.0

Microsoft decides when computers will be updated. Microsoft has said that general availability for 23H2 will begin in the first half of November, 2023. In addition, not every computer will receive every feature of the update at the same time, but all computers will become feature complete.
Although it is certainly possible to download parts of the 23H2 update earlier, I myself do not do this. Microsoft does not distribute updates in an arbitrary manner. Rather, they are released in waves which allow Microsoft to gauge the success (or lack thereof) of an update. This gives an opportunity for Microsoft to discover bugs before the update has gone out to everyone. Personally, I'm content to wait. There's nothing in 23H2 that I must have now.

I was just able to update to Windows 11 23H2 OS Build 22631.2506 on a XPS 8940 that had 22H2 OS Build 22621.2506 using the standard Windows Update check. The update took less than 10 minutes to complete.

@Tyoga001 - Which build of Windows 10 or 11, and what update are you trying to install?
Read this to see if you can fix the 0x8007000d error.

We have win11 22h2 (2 machines), we try upgrade to 23h2.
windows update can see the upgrade. Manual install (download win11 last version) ends up with the error.

Did you try any of the suggested fixes for that error message at the link I posted above?

Windows update does not have the update. the error occurs at the end of manual install.
troubleshooting windows update does come out with issue detected and some changes to fix
but the troubleshoot error reoccurs. we do get 22h2 updates when they come.
Uninstalling nvidia components is not logical.
Microsoft said today just to wait.
we wait.

@RoHe
Went to Microsoft update online, needed to use self-install update. Update install told me "This update is not applicable to your computer". As previously mentioned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I have to start running command prompts and become an IT/Software Engineer, then there is something seriously wrong!!!!!! I don't work in the Software Engineer Industry. Why do I have to get into the system in that way??? Since Windows Vista Jan 2007 I've become sick & tired of being sick & tired of windows incompetence, buggy, flawed & unstable system. It seems that all the time I have to spend (including business hours downtime) researching fixes, is perfectly normal and acceptable! It does seem that everyone has solutions to fix this, fix that! (some don't even work!) When no one mentions WHY you have to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You would think that since the first version of Windows, released in 1985, Microsoft would have designed, developed & produced an OS that was stable with the odd bug now & then (which is acceptable). Makes me wonder what happens at Redmond! I've just bought an iMac, wow, what a difference! Hail to the Mac! As you can tell, I'm at the end of my tether with Windows and all it stands for with its bugs and unreliability reputation. Dell, may I suggest that you add to your Support/Service App a feature that compensates for Microsoft's incompetence. For example, would it be possible that this App could run through the OS "Update History" and look for missing parts? Thanks for reading my rant.

@Deck-em Ranting here about Microsoft's incompetence won't do anything to solve the problem. And unfortunately, we're all victim of their ineptitude...
If Dell had to update SupportAssist every time Microsoft made another stupid blunder, they'd have to release a new version almost daily...
If you want an easy way to see what Windows updates have been installed in last 90 days, and what security updates may be missing on your PC, plus a whole lot more info, run Belarc Advisor (free). It just can't fix any that are installed but not functioning correctly.
