Which "restore" did you do? System Restore or PC Restore (Ctrl-F11)? And why were you doing a "restore"? If it's stuck on drmk.sys that's part of digital rights management for music files etc.

Reboot and press F8 before XP starts to load. Select Last Known Good from the list. If you get to your desktop, reboot normally.

If that doesn't get you to the desktop, reboot, press F8 and select Safe Mode. If you get to the desktop, delete file drmk.sys from folder c:\windows\system32\drivers. Then copy ( don't move) file drmk.sys from c:\i386 folder into c:\windows\system32\drivers folder. Reboot normally and keep fingers x'd

I'm still confused. System Restore is an XP option and does not reset the system to the way Dell shipped it. PC Restore (pressing Ctrl-F11 before XP loads) resets it to Dell's factory settings.

Define "after reboot northings working anymore" in more detail. If diagnostic LEDs on the tower aren't all green, look up error code in user's manual.

Try booting in Safe Mode (press F8 before XP starts to load). If that gets you to the desktop, then some driver installed at the factory isn't compatible with the hardware currently installed. If you added/replaced any hardware, you may have to uninstall it and reinstall.

If you actually did PC Restore, you could try doing it again, in case there was a glitch in the process.
