vxrail vMotion TCP/IP Stack
Hi there,
Changing the IP address of the vMotion VMkernel adapter causes failures when vMotion is configured to use the vMotion TCP/IP stack. I couldn’t find specific instructions on the Dell Solve Portal; the documents there just refer to VMware resources without addressing this issue directly.
The only workaround I’ve found so far is to remove and re-add the vMotion VMkernel adapter. However, I’m not sure if this is the recommended action, especially from a VxRail support perspective.
Has anyone encountered this issue before, or can provide insights or best practices?
Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Hi,
Thanks for your question.
I don’t see any Vxrail specific documentation on changing the IP address for Vmotion. https://dell.to/49DBygl
Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Hi Josh,
Are there any insights or recommended best practices from your internal resources to resolve this issue without needing to remove and re-add the VMkernel adapter?
Thanks,

I don’t see any, it seems like we are assuming it is not changing and is configured with the same IP from the time it is initially deployed. Removing and re-adding is one of the steps in troubleshooting Vmotion issues.
