VxRail Cisco Nexus 9k ToR and Twinax

Hi everybody ,

I would like to know if i can use the twinax cable provide by Cisco (ex. SFP-H10GB-CU5M ) on VxRail ?

My VxRail config will be based on 4x10 GbE SFP+ : 10 hosts per site .

By reading the network guide for vxrail  , only information i get is :

Cable requirements:

- VxRail nodes with RJ-45 ports require CAT5 or CAT6 cables. CAT6 cables are included with every VxRail

- VxRail nodes with SFP+ ports require optics modules (transceivers) and optical cables, or Twinax Direct-AttachCopper (DAC) cables.

These cables and optics are not included; you must supply your own. The NIC and switch connectors and cables must be on the same wavelength.

If i can derease the price for network connectivity by using twinax cable SFP-H10GB-CU5M instead of  10GBASE-SR SFP Module , it's very great ...

Does anybody as a feedback about this compatibility ?

Thx for your feedback

Yes.  You always want to match the Twinax/DAC cable with the ToR switch being used.  In the case of Cisco ToR (Nexus 9K), the Cisco-branded Twinax cable (Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU5M) is the correct choice, assuming you are looking for a long (5 meter) cable.  The Dell PowerEdge-based VxRail nodes are using standard Intel NICs, which are compatible with DAC cables from a variety of Ethernet switch manufacturers.  For example, I have VxRail nodes connected to Juniper ToR switches, in which case I use Juniper-branded Twinax cables, compatible with the Juniper switch model being used.  As long as you choose the Twinax cable from the compatibility matrix of your switch vendor, you'll be good.
