Update to 7.0.531 advisory repot fails

Hi,

I'm updating from 7.0.521 -> 7.0.531.  Running advisory report fist stuck for a while to 80% then fails.
"Failed to generate the advisory report. Please retry the operation after some time."
This is happening in two separate systems.

Have anyone ben able to successfully run update?

@DELL-Sam L

That is for an older version - we are running .521, which is *newer* than the "Fixed" version in the KB you outlined.

FYI, reboot of VXRail manager does not solve the issue.

Try the steps here, even though it is for a newer version. https://dell.to/4f2E1T1

@DELL-Josh Cr

Thank you!

So far so good - It appeared to hang, then completed. Much better than before. Will report back after the upgrade installs (as I was having issues here as well).

Not working.

So, I received this error:

VxRail Update ran into a problem...
Error extracting upgrade bundle 7.0.531-28777448. The upgrade engine is deployed. However it failed to start. Try again later.

This led me to:

Dell VxRail: VxRail Update ran into an issue. The upgrade engine has been deployed, however it failed to start. Please try again later. | Dell US

I verified the logs (  tail -f /var/log/mystic/lcm-web.log ), and was seeing that the verify_bundle_signature.py file was not found, so I followed the steps to place the file where it needed to be.

After doing so, and retrying the update, I receive the same error:

VxRail Update ran into a problem...

  • Error extracting upgrade bundle 7.0.531-28777448. The upgrade engine is deployed. However it failed to start. Try again later.

Checking the logs again, this time a new error:

2024-10-16T18:30:28.950Z <4dfa9a554f1a43e1f26e5efb705999fc> lcm [ERROR] <286> ScriptServiceImpl.java runLocalScript() (424): Running local script got exception: scriptName=/etc/vmware-marvin/scripts/lcm/scripts/verify_bundle_signature.py, shebangCommand=/etc/vmware-marvin/scripts/lcm/lcm_python, timeout=600000, envp= parameters=--bootstrap-check
2024-10-16T18:30:28.950Z <4dfa9a554f1a43e1f26e5efb705999fc> lcm [ERROR] <286> ScriptServiceImpl.java runLocalScript() (426): Running local script got exception.
java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/etc/vmware-marvin/scripts/lcm/lcm_python": error=2, No such file or directory

Looks like a support case is needed. Sometimes I wonder if they test these updates!

I am having the exact same issue.  Were you able to find a resolution?

@ke5fgy

Sorry for my delay, I didn't get notified of the reply. - I only found your reply because I am preparing to deploy 7.0.532, and I am seeing the same behavior - They don't test these, I am now convinced!

Regarding my prior specific issue/error, my Dell/EMC Engineer was able to find a customer facing KB:

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000230587

As I review my emails, After he sent me this KB, I replied informing him that I had restarted 'hostd' on all nodes using SuperPutty, and my upgrade was able to continue and succeed.

Hello we are facing the same problem "Cannot run program "/etc/vmware-marvin/scripts/lcm/lcm_python": error=2, No such file or directory"

Did you solve the issue ?

@TASGROUP

Hello, Regarding that specific error, I just looked through my case notes, and this is what the Dell Engineer (Nick) had noted regarding that issue (I think some of these KBs are internal, so a support case will be needed - I highly recommend you do not run any commands I post here without consulting support, as they ran the command in the notes below, based ok KB guidance):

"Thank you very much for the time today on our Zoom. We were able to work off the latest error seen -

"The upgrade engine is deployed. However it failed to start"

KBs Found -
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000226461/dell-vxrail-vxrail-update-ran-into-an-issue-the-upgrade-engine-has-been-deployed-however-it-failed-to-start-please-try-again-later

KBs Used -

lcm-web.log

java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/etc/vmware-marvin/scripts/lcm/lcm_python": error=2, No such file or directory

We were able to follow the resolutions on KB 000227249 and after a cancel/restart - the upgrade was able to progress forward.

The resolution called for an edit to file 'verify_bundle_signature.py' and to restore the symlink with command -

ln -s /usr/bin/mcp_python lcm_python

Please let us know if there are any further issues that come up during the upgrade. We will be ready to assist. "

@TASGROUP

My apologies for posting the links from email and not removing hyperlinks. It appears Dell does not let users modify their posts so I will have to post again:

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000226461/dell-vxrail-vxrail-update-ran-into-an-issue-the-upgrade-engine-has-been-deployed-however-it-failed-to-start-please-try-again-later

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000227249

The last link, which is what the dell engineer used, appears to be an internal KB, so you will need to work with support to view that KB, as non-dell employees do not have access to that KB.

Hello JGreen.1280

As for what you said about not being able to edit your post, I was told that The edit option is enabled for users for a few minutes right after posting. Could you confirm that now it has been a day since you made a post, if you can see the edit option now?

Respectfully,
