How to correct exsi version discrepancies on VXrail nodes
We have a 4 E560F host VXrail 7.0.410 cluster using imbedded vCenter we’d like to upgrade to 7.0.533 but vxverify identified an ESXI version mismatch on one of the hosts. Specifically, three of the four hosts are on ESXI 7.0.3 build 23794019 and the fourth is on 7.0.3 build 20842708. That is 8 Vmware revisions behind, per the vmware build/version matrix at https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/316595/build-numbers-and-versions-of-vmware-esx.html.
Our level of support does not include free upgrade service by Dell on vxrail so we’d like to do this ourselves, but regardless of whether we upgrade VXrail, we need to fix the issue. From what I've read, the prescribed fix for our situation is to revert esxi updates to get all hosts on the same version, but will this be possible considering how far out of date the host is?
We’ve also considered removing the outdated host from the cluster, performing the VXrail upgrade, then re-imaging the host and adding it back to the cluster after the upgrade. I’ve done the SolVe procedures for both removing and re-imaging a node. Removing looks easy but reimaging more complicated. Has anyone attempted this? Should we even be considering it? Has anyone in our situation solved this problem another way?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Hi,
Thanks for your question.
Maybe someone in the community will habe more insight but you should try updating in place first and if it fails then remove and readd the node after updating the rest.
Let us know if you have any additional questions.

@DELL-Josh Cr Thanks for your help. We now have a support ticket open with Dell regarding the out of sync esxi versions and the tech has also suggested we perform the vxrail upgrade, which should bring the esxi versions into compliance.
