vWorkspace 8 - VDI Windows 7 "Error unable to establish connection to Server"
Hi,
We are imminently about to begin rollout of our vWorkspace VDI solution. We have Windows 7 Client s connecting to Win 7 Pro 32 Bit VM's on Hyper-V.
Occasionally when the user intiates a connection to the published Windows 7 VDI desktop, the vWorkspace Client will launch and attempt to connect and then an error will be presented "Error unable to establish connection to Server". We don't get it all the time and it is random.
We need to get it resolved urgently as it is going to cause us major headaches with our users.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Cool, thanks Dan.
I'll find Mike's case and send the info from there.

Hi Andrew,
We have a vCloud Pool of VM's from a single image, VM's are deleted and re-provisioned at logoff, the entire pool has been re-provisioned several times and it is not always the same VM presenting the issue. The users are on the same Physical LAN as the VM's but connecting from a different VLAN. If the user tries again to connect, it normally connects ok.
The error pops up randomnly and we are not using an SSL gateway. The failed logins are spread across multiple VM's and those VM's are on different Hyper-V hosts too....

Hi Dan,
We need to work out which VDI are given you the issue.
Eg, Do you have a Pool of VDI. Do these get assigned at Random or are they Persistantly assigned so that the same user always gets the same vdi?
Also, is this a Desktop Cloud (Where the VDIs are deleted at logoff) or are they traditional.
Note down which VDI you're connecting to when you see the error. Is it always the same few or does it appear to be any in the group.
Are your Users in the same network as the VDI or are they connecting through an SSL Gateway ?
If you fail to connect, if you try launching again does it work ?
What if you open up RDP and try to connect to the same VDI ?
As you are running 8.0, In the vWorkspace management console, you'll see a column called "Failed Logons" sort by this to see if it is always the same machines that are failing or if the issues are spread out across the entire group.
Let me know all these answers for now and it should allow us to focus in on where the issue is.
Thanks, Andrew

Hi Dan,
I guess it happens from multiple different client machines too?
Once you're connected, does it stay connected or do you get random disconnects?
There is a log you can turn on which will capture what is happening whilst we are trying to connect. However, it will contain private information about your Domain so it's probably best if you raise a case first and then you can forward the log straight to support rather than on here for all to read
Thanks, Andrew.

HI Andrew,
Yes, I'm afraid so, happens from different clients too.
I currently have an SR raised with Mike Hatch who has suggested turning local resource options off one by one in the App Portal until the fault goes away. The problem is the error is very random and trying to reporoduce it based on whether or not a local resource option is on or off is going to be very hard to do.
How do we switch on the logging so that we can get it analysed?
