vWorkspace 7.2 w/Parallels Virtuozzo 4.6 on Windows 2008 R2 x86_64
Hi all,
Wanted to ask around who is working with vWorkspace 7.2 joined with Parallels Virtuozzo 4.6 for Windows 2008 R2 ?
Things are looking pretty cool with the Windows 7 skin and all, but I ran into an issue when creating a new group:
When I want to define a sysprep for my group, I create a Windows 2008 R2-based sysprep, but when I continue it claims that it want to see a Windows 2003-based sysprep.
My guess would be that this comes from the previous vWorkspace version with Virtuozzo 4.5 which was largely based on Windows 2003.
Is this all pretty new of is this a known issue and is there a workaround?

Do you have VZU460004 update for Parallels Virtuozzo Containers 4.6 installed yet?
By the way, the Sysprep issue in your original question has been logged with our Dev team but you'll have to use your workaround for now

I'm working around sysprep using some Parallels templates provided to join the VDI in the domain etc.
One thing I DO run into: after installing pntools from the managment console, the RDP port is no longer functioning.
Is this a known issue?

While the Update Wizard said my VZ4.6 install was up to date - it was not and I am installing the updates 1 t/m 6 as we speak.
Thanks.

Moving forward, I ran across a couple of issues:
1) sysprep can/should not be used?
2) The VDI's complain about RDP/Terminal Service licensing. How should this be set up?
3) Copying files from redirected local disks may disconnect the RDP session. Windows 7 client PC. Known issue?
4) What are the common ways of restricting AD traversal?
5) Are there more 'hidden' useful regedit settings? Other than: single session, failover,
Thanks!

Hi Laurens
Im also working on a Parallels 4.6/ vWorkstation 7.2/ Win 2008 R2 deployment and was wondering how you managed to setup the join-OU-domain template from the parallels wiki.
I have tried to use this template to join the new VDI to the domain but it seems to fail every time, have followed the instructions but still having troubles getting this working.
Can you please assist with any instructions that may be able to assist with using this workaround until Quest update the sysprep for Virtuozzo.
Thank you

G'Day Laurens
Thanks for the quick reply
Yes I can confirm that I have the following covered:
1. DHCP Server
2. Account with the correct permissions to join to domain
3. Copied and imported the file into Management Console "Templates"
4. Edited the file using the Template Wizard (As below)
strDomain = "ADDS1-VDI.onlinevdi.local"
strUser = "vdiadmin"
strPassword = "Quest123"
strAccountOU = "OU=PVCVDI,DC=onlinedvi,DC=local"
Nothing else has been changed in the file.
I can use the credentials to manually add a machine to the domain so the account is not the problem.
Could it be this line:
strAccountOU = "OU=PVCVDI,DC=onlinedvi,DC=local"
I have created the Organisational Unit as a global security group = PVCVDI and provided Domain admin permissions to the group is this the correct procedure or should this have been created differently?
Not really sure where its stalling as the templates shows as installed without errors by "Parallels Management Console" and then reboots the CT once completed.
Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.
P.S.
Just out of curiosity im also getting an error when in connection broker its having problems looking in the Active Directory for OU (Picture Attached)
But if I can manually put in an administrators details I.e. Onlinevdi\vdiadmin and this seems to work but it wont work with a group I.e. Onlinevdi\PVCVDI
Have you come across this problem ?
Thank speak soon.
Gerardo.

Copy the existing template and change it using the provided Parallels Template tools on the HW node. Change the .vbs that does the actual joining. You need to verify that you install your updated template and that you have a Domain Administrator account that has all the rights to join the computer to the AD.
Of course DHCP needs to be running and th domain needs to resolve through DNS.
Do you know at what point it is failing?

PVCVDI must be a real OU of course, not a security group.

Hi Laurens
A slip up on my part, thank you for your keen eye.
I have now created a proper OU and am still facing the same problem, the CT will not join the domain.
I have made the OU managed by a domain admin "vdiadmin" with permissions to add computers to the domain.
Have I missed anything, appreciate your help.
Thank you.

Run the .vbs in an empty container manually?

Hi Laurens
I have followed your instructions and have been greeted with the following errors (please see attached pictures)
I did find a type in one sections and amended it to reflect the correct settings but this still has not resolved the problem.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Thanks again in advance
