Server 2012 R2 as a managed desktop

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had setup server 2012 r2 as a managed desktop in 8.0.1. The release notes say 2012 r2 and 8.1 are now fully supported but going into the more detailed notes it sounds like you can only use 8.1 as a managed desktop.

Full support for Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 allows customers to fully benefit from new functionality in these Windows releases. Specifically, vWorkspace 8.0 MR1 allows customers to:

Install all vWorkspace roles on Windows Server 2012 R2 machines (and Windows 8.1 where applicable).

Use Windows 8.1 as a fully supported Connector and Managed Desktop platform.

Does this mean you can only use a desktop with 8.1 rather than 2012r2? Will 2012r2 work and is just not supported yet?

Thanks

Luke

Hello Luke,

The scenario you are describing is what we call VDI with a dedicated individual Windows server for every user is fully supported even with Windows 2012 R2 as Sam just wrote. I have this working in a customer.

we not only support it we even provide the extended EOP protocol benefits like USB redirection, universal printing, VoIP support and much more.

just go ahead, create your template, join it to the domain, install PNtools, instant provisioning service, desktop optimizer and ready to go.

Cheers,

Jose Romero

Hi Luke,

Do you mean you want to install PNTools on the 2012 R2 server perhaps using something like Parallels as the virtualization platform or have the 2012 R2 server as an RD Session Host?

PNTools is supported on Server 2012 R2:

Same goes for RDSH:

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Sam
