high connection latency and vWorkspace
Hello all,
For a client of ours we have set up a demo environment in our data center. The client has a satellite office in a very remote location which only has access to a satellite connection with very high latency and we are exploring options for remote connectivity.
So far, using software to simulate the latency and bandwidth limitations, we have been unable to create an acceptable user experience. Main focus is usability; just typing a Word document yields an unacceptable delay. We can throttle bandwidth to even 33.6kbps without problems but whenever we introduce latency (from 200ms and up) the experience is degraded. We are aware of the limitations of this kind of connection and are willing to sacrifice user friendliness for the sake of performance.
The setup is as follows:
-vworkspace 7.5
-secure gateway server
-connection broker/web access server
-rd session host (2008 r2)
-only 1 user connecting from a w7 client
Connection details of the remote office:
-satellite 512kbps
-latency of around 650ms (roundtrip)
There was also a bit of odd behaviour: when connecting through web access the experience appears (this is user experience so hard to measure) to be worse than connecting through the Quest remote desktop connection client (both through the secure gateway).
Are there any recommendations for optimizing the experience for this scenario? Might there be a configuration issue? Mind that everything works smoothly without introducing latency.
Thanks!
