Few questions about Flash redirection en IE redirection
Hi,
Currently we are investigating the possibilities to implement the VWorkspace PNTools remote desktop experience in our services.
Question 1:
Quite easily I got Flash redirection working on my test RD server.
With all the patches even Youtube works
But still there are some websites which are a little problematic sometimes.
For example: http://tweakers.net/reviews/2814/nexus-10-googles-grote-tablet-onder-de-loep.html gives just a black box, no flash.
Is there a way to debug this? Furthermore, is there also a options to whitelist sites which should have redirection, in stead of a black list.
I don't like a customer seeing black boxes.
Question 2:
Unfortunately I can't get Internet Explorer redirection working.
On the RD server I start c:\program files (x86)\quest ..\pn tools\ie redirection\iexplore.exe.
This really starts slowly (5-10 secons wait) and than you get just an ordinary Internet Explorer which isn't redirected.
The server is a Windows 2008 R2 with all the updates so with IE 9 (newest PN tools from latest patch).
I tried 2 clients both Windows 7 and IE9 (most used configuration in the world i suppose) with the newest connector.
What am I doing wrong?
Question 3:
Sometimes I experience problems with CTRL or SHIFT key not working correctly in the connector RDP session.
For example CTRL+C just gives me a c, and I can't type capitals of I only can type capitals.
Does someone know anything about this?
Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Question1 :
To disable direct connection, On the local client, open regedit and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Provision Networks\Flash Redirection
Create a DWORD value called DirectConnection
Set it to 0
This disables it completely.
Whitelist idea: Great idea but we don't have that yet!
Question 2:
Are these VDI or RDSH boxes? It sounded like RDSH in which case there is vworkspace RDSH software that you need to install instead of the pntools.
If you are manually testing the IE redirect, you need to give the url to be opened as well. EG: c:\program files (x86)\quest ..\pn tools\ie redirection\iexplore.exe www.google.com
There is a blog post around here on setting this up.
We also have Bi-directional IE redirection which allows you to have a list of URLs (controlled via a GPO) that automatically open on the local client and vice versa.
Question 3.
I've seen Caps Lock get out of sync before. Is that whats happening to you?
The approach we need to take here is trying to figure out what causes the out of sync in the first place, is there a set pattern?
My prime suspect would be a helpful feature of Office that corrects CapsLock issues:
For example, When you use Microsoft Outlook, if CapsLock is on, Upon typing first word the caps lock is turned off (automatically by Outlook) so email types in regular case. I suspect this, or something similar is causing the out of sync. If we can track down what causes it, we can disable that feature and avoid the issue.
To check if the option is on, in Outlook click
Tools | Options | Mail Format | Editor Options | Proofing | Auto Correct Options | Correct Accidental Usage of cAPS lOCK
With this on, and Caps Lock on, Start a new mail
Type a word with shift held down for the first letter
eg:
hELLO dAVE
Outlook will swap that to Hello Dave and turn Caps Lock off for you but leave it on in the other machine hence the out of sync
Thanks, Andrew.

Question1:
What is the disadvantage of not using DirectConnection (what does it do technically)?
Woulld serverside registry bl_directconnect * work? I don't like client site modificiations. In our scenario people would connect from a lot of different systems so it would be kind of hard to deploy registry settings.
Question2:
Your right, I am using RDSH. Which software do you mean? What are the benefits compared to the PN tools?
With URL parameter the iexplore.exe works
But it is possible that is simulates in a browser frame in de remote desktop session?
Now if you click back to your session you find the browser because it is not in your task manager/start menu.
Question3:
No its just that shift, caps lock and ctrl totally doesn't work. I will test some more so that I can say exactly in which situation this occures.

Hello,
Question1
The different is:
DirectConnection means that the Client machine downloads the flash and decodes and plays it
Non-Direct Connection means that the Server downloads the flash and then passes it on to the Client to decode and play.
Both of these offer massive improvements over non-flash redirection so you'll still be benefitting.
Question 2
The standard vWorkspace installer. When you run this, select Advanced and you can install the Terminal Server components.
If your RDSH server is currently an "All in one" which you did a Simple mode install, you could already have the required bits installed already. If you modify the installed program, make sure the Terminal Server/RDSH role is selected
That screenshot is from my RDSH server. I have a seperate Connection Broker on a different server so that is why so little is installed. Don't remove anything from here, just make sure the RDSH role is installed.
It's not possible to have the client side browser appear in the RDSH session.
If you look into bidrectional IE redirection, you can make sure that the browser gets opened on the client any time they go to certain URLs, this will redirect them to the client side browser each time.
An alternative could be to run the programs that are installed on the RDSH in seamless mode. This will mean they appear as part of the Clients desktop so they will always see their local browser (Unless ofcourse you want to publish IE from the RDSH server as a seamless window)
Thanks.

About question 3:
I have tested a bit more.
It turns out that I have it on multiple client computers.
When I select Keyboard redirection 'On the remote computer' or 'When fullscreen':

I get the following problems:
After some time (on a slower client it seams shorter) the shift and control don't work anymore.
Not that its slow or hanging in caps.
Just totally not working.
You cant do ctrl + c, type @ (which is capital of 2) and many other irritating stuff.

Hi There
I like to comment question 3.
I think we have the same issue, while writing a text sometiems we have problems that shift is not accepted to write a capital letter. This occurs only when you write "very" fast.
When i press shitf a little moment and waiting, then it works. (Slow writing)
When i set the keyboard combination to local computer, this problem seems not existing.
We're working with HP ThinClients T510.
