Can't connect to vWorkspace offsite

Right now I am working on a project that I had inherited.

My issue is that user cannot connect to the vWorkspace offsite/home.

Users can connect when they are here on campus on the LAN.

I’m hoping the previous person did everything correct with installation, since vWorkspace works when user are on campus.

Current environment:

1x  VM - Windows Server 2008 R2

25x VM – Windows 7

Logon and downloading/installing the client is possible.

Firewall ports 80,443,3389 are open.

If you are connecting externally through the Secure Gateway then you must use https to load the web portal. It is only when doing this that your connection will be via the SG and encrypted over port 443. Are you able to access the website using https?

If not then you may still need to configure the SG and certification, this is covered in the product documentation and our vWorkspace Best Practice guide.

Hi,

Yes, Quest Secure-IT is the Secure Gateway role now but essentially it is the same. When the users log into the web portal are they using http or https?

Do you know if this has worked previously, or is this a new installation that you have inherited prior to completion?

If the users are able to work on the LAN but not remotely then the issue is likely the SG/web server configuration or perhap a service, certification problem.

Hi David,

Thanks for the quick response,

The user are authenticating to Quest vWorkspace WebAccess with their username/password, they are able to log in. When user click on the application "computer lab" is when i get the error- "The error message is: this computer can't connect to the remote computer"

is vWorkspace Secure gateway the same as "Quest Secure-IT"? if it is not how can i look for it if it is installed?

sorry for the newbie question

Thanks

Tuyen

Hi Tuyen,

How are the users connection when remote, is this via the web portal or are they using AppPortal with an offsite/home location configured?

Typically there would be a vWorkspace Secure Gateway server or other 3rd party device in the DMZ to allow remote access without opening too many firewall ports, ideally you would only need 1, port 443.

Do you have a vWorkspace Secure Gateway in your setup?

What do the users see when trying to connect remotely, is there an error or does it just fail to connect?

Thanks,

David
