APP-V Integration and File Type Association

I can get APP-V integration working and creating shortcuts and launching apps working just fine however the file type association does not get registered until the application is launched. Is there anyway to get this to work. For example when a user connects and the app-v application is displayed that the file types are registered with app-v client and unregistered when the client disconnects.

Thanks

Hello,

I've checked and we don't handle the File Assoications for AppV applications.

The way around this is to configure the AppV client on the VDI/TS so it knows about the AppV server and this will handle the File Associations for you.

Softgrid/MS have a ADMX file for this so you can configure them all centrally via GPO.

Cheers, Andrew

Or do you you mean file types associated with the virtual app itself?

I actually mean the file types associated with the app. Natively APP-V (sfttray) will make these associations for you.

Thanks.

Is this something that is going to come?

I know SCCM can do it and it uses SFTMIME commands (in the background somewhere).

Cheers

I'm sure it will but we'll need Keith to come along  and answer that one

The registry tasks idea should work too but will take some manual effort.

Simply create a Registry task to modify HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes

so that the file association launches the AppV app and assign the registry task to the same people as you've assigned the AppV app.

Hi Guys,

Did either of you find a way to do this yet?

I need to know but don't want to reinvent the wheel.

My initial thoughts are "Not possible right now, except maybe through registry tasks"

Andrew.
