App Portal Typing Lag Troubleshooting
Currently I have 2 environments, plain Microsoft RDP over Micrsoft RD Gateway and Connection broker and Quest vWorspace Secure-IT with a Connection Broker.
Our client indicate that their old icon (RDP over SSL) was much faster for them and they are seeing typing lag with the app portal.
Currently have WAN acceleration disabled on the servers using the Vworkspace Management. Flash redirection and multimedia redirection is enabled (but one client in particular is not using any websites, just office)
The entire anvironment is virtual and identically configured from a Terminal Server standpoint.
I have been looking at the performance of the Secure-IT and connection broker servers and they are idle...i mean like <5% CPU usage. I've checked and we are not hammering the link, etc either.
From a virtual perspective there is no difference between servers, and no concerns with %ready times (indication of too much CPU overcommittment).
Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this further?

Hi Mark,
We've been discussing this here: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/virtualization/vworkspace/f/4827/t/19551572#4381
We have seen this also...
Have you tried disabling local text echo?
Renaming the PNlteagt.exe on the hosted desktop or RDS box (it's the text echo service) helped a little but the problem is still there.

Local text echo is disabled in the client.
Should we try disabling the WAN and Local Text Echo Services as well.
I am going to get killed soon if I can’t figure this out…now working on my Citrix certs because I am getting pressured to go Citrix – for better or worse).
Ps - Daniel - I thought I'd start a new thread on actual lag vs excess bandwidth as I don't think they are completely related at this point. I think we muddied those B/W waters by discussing both together.

So...WAN acceleration disabled along with GA
GA - I have been playing with tweaks, but in reality the best I can get to without complaints is JPG Quality - 75%, exclude explorer, outlook, word, excel. So basically it was providing little value
Flash redirection enabled - really one of the core selling features of the product.
So...put 3 users in a local office on the system (migrated them from my standard RDP link). As soon as we migrated them, horrible horrible performance. I was on same server as them and it was working fine.
So, this isn't sustainable at all as they were all working in excel so there should have been no problems at all. Link speed was 10mbps down and 900kbps up...30ms ping times...
Pretty much screwed at this point

Thanks to assistance from Rick so far we are making progress...most of the issues are as I suspected my doing (looks like I had configured a config.xml in the root directory of Secure-It server while testing and then put the production changes in a subdirectory...but didn't update documentation so we were basically setting every setting full on..hopefully fixing that will resolve the issues..
One question though - Image Acceleration subkey...if I configure my exception list and JPEG_Quality at HKLM, can I leave out the enabled registry key and have that determined by the client side checkmark of the GA?

We are having the same issues. Today we deployed a RD session host through RDWeb and RDGateway for a new customer. What a difference in terms of speed and user experience comparing to the speed of vWorkspace. You guys need to straight things out soon for the vWorkspace solution otherwise we defenitely need transferring all customers to the microsoft solution.

Here are things we found so far:
Color 24 bit…best balance
Enable GA – however, use the exception list for primary apps like outlook, excel, word…set jpeg_quality to 80
Experience tab is set like this…I don’t know if it’s helping much, but its no worse then standard RDP…with added benefits of Flash and Printer so far.

We tried some settings but still the difference is huge. We have installed 2 new 2008 R2 Session hosts to make sure it's not a server 2003. We have recorded 2 video's, one using RD Gateway and one SecureIT. Connecting over 50Mb fiber connection. Excluded GA for excel. Look at the difference scolling speed. Also when you navigate between cells the RD gateway connection feels much more responsive then Secure-IT.
SecureIT connection:
RDGateway connection:
I don't know if you can see the difference through the video's, but with secure-IT the scrolling stops shortly after 5-10 rows. With RD Gateway this does not happen.
