Windows Dynamic disks and VPLEX encapsulation
Hello guys,
for one of my customer I have to encapsulate data from NetApp array using VPLEX. From this point of view, no problem at all. One physical server with Windows Server 2008 R2 has one dynamic disk spanned on two LUNs from NetApp. Unfortunately I have no experience with encapsulation of LUNs which are components of spanned windows dynamic disk. What behavior can I expect in Windows OS after VPLEX encapsulation? Could you share your experience with such scenario?
Thanks.
L.

I'm trying to remember if Dynamic disks are supported and I can't find anything in the docs about them or in the SSM so they should work ok. Essentailly you want to treat it like a volume group where you have all the disks that comprise that spanned volume presented/encapsulated through the VPLEX in order for Windows to bring the spanned volume back online. Once you re-present the volumes (nothing is touched on the LUNs as part of the encapsulation) Windows will be rescanned and the drives should come back online. Worse case they might come in as foreign and you can manually import them, but I am not aware of any issues as well as all of the LUNs that create the Windows drive letter are encapsulated/presented at the same time - otherwise the volume won't come online.
