VPlex MIB Information

Hi,

Objective is to send VPLEX events to the Event Management System IBM Netcool Omnibus. Currently I am receiving no information in the trap, just An emcCelerra:Hardware Failure trap received message

Is there any information out there on which is the correct mib to use for vplex or documentation on the configuration setup, seems to be much more out there on VNX or VMAX

Regards

Darren

Hi Daren,

I'm a bit confused about your indicating the VPLEX sent a trap containing information about emc Celerra.  I'll assume you got that mixed up with a trap from a Celerra.

You might find my post https://inside.emc.com/docs/DOC-89631 helpful.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Andrew

You can download a free program called "mib browser" and then load the VPlex mib into it and explore. The VPlex administrators guide has an appendix that gives you all the event ids.

Hope this helps

Andrew & Intech,

Thank you for assistance so far.

What i have configured right now is when we encounter a dial home in vplex, EMC  receive the alert (emailalert@emc.com) and generate a service request as expected but also i have it configured that i receive an email notification with the same information.

What i want to achieve is allow my MIB Manager to receive the exact same information that i & EMC currently recieve via email.

So far from reviewing the information i am getting so far this entails modifying the VPLEX-MIB.mib information ?

Thanks

darren

Hi Daren,

Sorry, I just realized I provided a link you might not be able to follow.  Here is the same information posted to ECN:

https://community.emc.com/people/Andrew-F/blog/2014/07/09/notes-on-vplex-snmp

I believe the MIB is only used for pulling information from VPLEX about status and performance.

For events, you need to configure VPLEX to send SNMP traps to an SNMP server.

I hope this helps,

Andrew

Do EMC provide support around MIB's ?

The problem is the MIB Manager is giving errors when compiling the EMC MIB for VPlex.

From research the VPlex MIB is a standard which is located in the /opt/emc/VPlex/mibs directory so it seems to be an issue with the MIB Manager IBM Netcool Omnibus but i am just wondering what if any support EMC provide and is there and experience of other such issues out there.

Thanks

darren
