VPLEX Data Mobility and performance impact.

Hello there,

I started working on this hardware a few months ago, and i'm facing today a need to migrate data from one site to another.

The 2 clusters of a metro configuration are not in the final state, today we use a cluster only to move data, and not use active/active storage yet.

So, i'm using the data mobility function to move data between clusters.

I'm aware that the device migration tools are using the synchronous method, is there an (srdf) adaptive copy like mode that we could use to do this ?

Thanks.

Thanks for the information, i already did several array based replication setups with vplex.

And indeed, if the vplex metrocluster cant migrate in another mode than sync, it could be possible to setup an srdf between a 5773 dmx and a 5875 vmax, replicate in acp_disk without performance issues.

Im kinda disappointed vplex doesnt offer this possibility.

It is possible to use array based replication with VPLEX still. The thing to remember if you choose to do that is you must use a 1:1:1 mapping between volumes, extents, and devices - ie each device has a single extent which is made from a single storage volume.

The down side is your R2 (in srdf terms) isn't a volume inside your vplex cluster.

You can do async with VPLEX Geo,  but not with metro..
