VPLEX and Windows Server 2012 storage space reclaim
Hello,
I have a question regarding reclaim function on Windows Server 2012. If I have LUN on VNX storage, which support ODX, mapped directly to Windows Server 2012, automatic storage space reclaim will operate without any problem.
What happens if I encapsulate that LUN using VPLEX and map it to Windows Server 2012. Will be automatic storage space reclaim still available and working properly? I suppose that it should work because Windows Server 2012 use standard T10 UNMAP command. Unfortunately I did not find any related information from EMC supporting my opinion.
Thans for your reply / experience.
Lukas.

Hi Lukas,
VPLEX does not support any kind of UNMAP or ODX related commands today.
Best I can say is that it's on the backlog of things to consider.

Hi Gary, thanks for your reply.
I see it as a huge inconvenience that VNX/VMAX has the support, but not if combined with VPLEX.
Is there any way how can customers inform engineering teams that such functions are desired?
Thanks.
Lukas.

Hi Lukas,
Yes, I agree it is an inconvenience.
You can I'm pretty sure request a product enhancement, via powerlink.emc.com
Home > Support > Request Support > Request a Product Enhancement
From that path, there's a form you can fill out.
I'd also recommend reaching out to your account rep.
