Migrating from VPLEX to Metro Node

Hi,

A Customer is planning to move from VPLEX metro solution to Metro node appliances (MN-215) and I did some searching but found nothing interesting. Maybe someone did that kind of replacement already? Any instructions are very appreciated :)

Hello Mariusz,

Have you looked at Dell EMC Metro node 8.0 Administrator Guide and chapter 8 which discusses Data migration. https://dell.to/3VGatnQ

That document only tells how to migrate internally in a Metro node not how to migrate from a VPLEX to metro node. I am doing it right now and we will have to have downtime for the production hosts. Remove all config in the VPLEX, present the old disk out to the metronode, present the old disk out to the hosts again fro mthe metro node and then if youo have distributed volumes sync the old source device together with a new target device. Then you an follow the Admin guide and perform a local migration with in the same cluster to change the old disk to the new disk infra.

Ok, so we managed to perform the migration but it was tricky. First you need to get hardware migration procedure from DELL. This document describes requirements to be met to succesfully perform the migration. At one point we had to open a SR because we needed the script that has to be used to convert RAID0 geometry on Vplex to RAID1. So, in overall it's not easy but can be done :)
