what are your experience with a Dell Vostro?

I am in the market of maybe buying a new laptop for replacing and old MacBook. And I would like to hear if anyone had any experience that they would like to share about the Vostro models.

They're not going to compare to a Macbook -- the Vostro and Inspiron models (same hardware, different cosmetics and software) are entry-level systems.

If you're coming from a Macbook, you'll be happier with an XPS or Latitude system depending on the intended use.

We had bad experience with Vostro 3400 laptops.

The built in speakers and microphone would randomly go bad, and Dell already replaced motherboards on several of them, that were fortunately still under warranty.

There is also a weird issue with powering up these laptops:

If you leave the laptop off for a day or two and then try to power it up, it will not power up without a power adapter plugged in, and as soon as it comes up, it will show that you have 40% or more battery charge. So, it is a mystery that a laptop does not power up with so much charge in the battery.

Garbage.  Literally fell apart in less than years.  Screen fell off.  Before that, constantly overheated.  Had to buy an laptop pad with fans just to surf the web.  Has Intel i9 + 32GM RAM, but not powerful enough to run the chrome browser. Had to switch to firefox.  AVOID VOSTRO!!!!!  Bought it to replace a Vostro with Core i7 that also constantly overheats.  Screens cracked or keyboards failed within 2 years on 4 other previous Dells (Inspiron, Latitude). No more Dell.
