Vostro 5481 USB failure

I foolishly connected an external usb DVD device to my laptop. Unfortunately it was powered to a 12 volt power supply which caused all my usb sockets on my laptop to fail. Subsequently the error "usb device drawing too much current" to be displayed. My question is would it be worth replacing the I/O board or is the failure more likely to be on the motherboard board.

It's more likely the system board - but before buying parts, compare the cost of a complete working system - you may find it no more expensive to replace the system than to buy a board for this one.

@ejn63 Thanks for the reply. I thought the same, but when the laptop works well in other respects it seems a shame to throw it away.
