Vostro 5481 BIOS update from 2.2 to 2.50 fails silently

I have a Vostro 5481 running the latest Windows 10 Pro 1903. I'm trying to update the BIOS from 2.2 to 2.50
An initial attempt with the Support Assistant failed, this turned out to be because the drives were running Bitlocker.

After turning off Bitlocker the upgrade appears to work (it says preparing firmware upgrade and then asks for the system to be restarted. However, there is no indication that a BIOS upgrade is happening during the restart, and the BIOS is still version 2.2.
I've tried the following suggestion (from other forum posts on BIOS update problems) :

Running the BIOS update .exe from an elevated command line (run as administrator)

Disabling Virtualisation in the BIOS

Disabling Secure Boot in the BIOS

All these have failed to update the BIOS, and have not displayed any failure indication or error.
Any other suggestions for performing the BIOS update ?

OK, I eventually got this working by installing a vanilla Windows 10 Pro (1903), disabling Virtualisation and Secure Boot in the BIOS and running the BIOS update .exe from an elevated command line (run as administrator). On restart the BIOS update was performed.

No idea what it was about the Windows10 Pro system that was originally running, that was preventing the update, but it's now done.
