Vostro 3550 won’t charge and is stuck at 0%
My Vostro 3550 won’t charge. I’m thinking it’s due to the BIOS needing new drivers or updates. I’ve downloaded the BIOS update version A12 (file name 3550A12.EXE) to see if that sorted it out but the battery needs to be charged past 10% before installing. Since I can’t charge it the battery, it won’t let me install the update. Has anyone got any ideas on how to solve this?

That Windows 7 model is obsolete now and cannot even run Windows 10. Sorry. It will not charge because there's no working battery to charge. Consider a new computer.

Check setup (F2 at powerup). If the AC adapter shows unknown, the battery won't charge. That would mean one of three things:
The adapter is faulty,
The DC jack is faulty, or
The system board is faulty.
Try a new adapter first.
If that doesn't solve the problem, the system is probably better replaced than repaired given its age.
The DC jack in this model cannot be replaced with out soldering.
If the adapter is recognized, but the battery won't charge, the battery is bad.
This is not a problem that can be solved with a firmware update.

In the setup menu on the main page. It shows the AC Adapter type as none. Is this the same as showing as unknown?
