Vostro 16 5630, intel graphics seems not to be HDCP compliant - problem with wireless projection to this computer

Hi,

I'm trying to extent my other Windows machine screen to Vostro 16 5630 with wireless display functionality. When I try to connect to Vostro I get blue screen with notice: Protected content can't be viewed on this device.

1. I'm running Windows 11 on both machines

2. On Vostro (target machine) all is up to date according to DELL support app

3. It seems basic Inter graphics is not HDCP complied

4. Although Vostro notebook has also NVidia Geforce RTX graphics which should be HDCP complied, it seems Intel graphics remain bottle neck

5. I was thinking to disable Intel graphics, but I was advised against that.

I need solution for this issue. Maybe Intel graphics can be disabled and this will solve problem or there is something what can be done in BIOS, or in Intel graphics set up (although I have done deep checking of that latest).

Please help.

Best regards, Branko

This will be a software-controlled hybrid, so no -- you cannot disable the Intel GPU.

On what device is the HDCP error showing?  The internal screen, or an external monitor/TV/projector?

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.

On another Windows 11 machine, I'm doing Windows+K, to project (extend) the screen to the Vostro notebook, also running Windows 11. When the source computer tries to connect to Vostro, the connection is unsuccessful, because the Wireless display app in Vostro is giving feedback 'Protected content can't be viewed in this device' (on the Vostro notebook).

@ejn63 Just to add: If I look in the Intel graphics software app, in tab Display Info, I see HDCP Support: Not supported. So it seems the internal notebook display doesn't support HDCP.

@ejn63 ... and graphics adapter is: Intel Iris Xe adapter.

Also it seems that this is specific limitation (issue) with Vostro 16 5630, because if I try same wireless projection in opposite direction, from Vostro to Dell Latitude 5430 it works as it should, although also on Latitude, Intel Graphics software, Display says that DHCP is not available.

And this is rather strange, I would expect that Dell Latitude will also not work - graphics adapter on Latitude is Intel Graphics Driver 32.0.101.6881.

So can someone check what is diference between Dell Latitute (which is working, despite it says that HDCP is not supported) and Dell Vostro (which doesn't work, while it also says that HDCP is not supported).

Funny it is I bought Vostro much later than Dell Latitude...

@jameswood32 Thank you very much, James. I will continue on two paths: first is, I will try to reach DELL support to get a definite answer if resolution is possible for wireless projecting, and second, I will employ Spacedesk, where I need to resolve the firewall issue with my company's IT.

I must write, I'm a bit frustrated, that Dell notebooks do not support functionality built into Windows 11. Especially as I'm not trying to wirelessly project any protected content, just use a wireless display extension to another notebook.

I'm confident that Dell should produce notebooks which fully comply with Windows 11 functionality. I hope someone from Dell is reading this, and perhaps they will come to me with a solution or a reasonable explanation as to why Dell specifically doesn't comply.

The Intel GPU likely handles the display pipeline during wireless projection, causing HDCP issues despite the NVIDIA GPU. Unfortunately, disabling Intel graphics isn't recommended; try setting the NVIDIA GPU as default for wireless display via NVIDIA Control Panel or BIOS (if supported).
