SSD Upgrade: Installed SSD detected in BIOS but not detected on Windows
Vostro 14 5468
Hi all,
I’m having an issue with my Dell Vostro 5468. I installed a Crucial CT512MX100SSD1 (512GB 2.5" SATA SSD) in the laptop, but it's not visible in Windows (Disk Management, Device Manager, or diskpart). However, it is detected in BIOS and in Dell ePSA Pre-boot Diagnostics, where it passes all tests.
Here’s what I’ve already tried:
Replaced the SATA cable with a brand-new OEM Dell part (NBX00020400 / 0CW40H)
Ensured the SSD is properly connected and seated
Confirmed BIOS is set to AHCI mode
Reset BIOS to default settings
Verified SSD works perfectly when connected via SATA-to-USB adapter (visible in Windows and fully functional)
Tried cleaning and formatting the SSD externally
Ran Dell hardware diagnostics (ePSA) — SSD appears and passes without error
Despite this, when installed internally, the SSD does not appear in Windows.
Any suggestions or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Is there a known issue with the SATA port on this model?
Thanks in advance!
