Size of headseat port
The old laptop had a 3.5mm Stereo Adapter port for the headphone connector but this laptop (and maybe all new laptops?) has a smaller size port. In order to get an adapter I need to know the size of the Dell Vostro 5620 laptop's headset port?
We connect that port to our sound board at church. I have the cable for this but it looks like I need an adapter.
Thanks!

The jacks look bigger but if you compare actual hole size they appear to be the same.
I'm a musician, recording studio owner/engineer and also a former guitar amp tech and have found some plugs are not exactly standard size. I've found some undersize and some oversize.

Industry standard is the 3.5mm (1/8 inch) jack/plug.
According to the Dell documentation the 5620 has a standard 3.5mm TRRS jack.
TRRS is used as this can be an audio out jack, mic jack or a combination headset (audio out) and mic.
If you have another cable with a 3.5mm plug or a headset with a 3.5 mm plug try that.
Another possibility is just a stiff (tight) jack because its new.
If it still won't work, contact Dell for warranty support.

As far as I know and according to this page at Laptopmedia, the size is still 3.5mm. Are you sure that you are looking at the audio port, on the right hand side, and not the power adapter port on the left hand side?

I appreciate the feedback and I've attached a couple of photos. The Ports photo compares the Dell Vostro headset port side by side with an older model, Toshiba Satellite A665. As you can see the Toshiba's headset looks a bit bigger and when I plug in the cable it is flush with the laptop. When I have the same cable plugged into the Dell's headset port it is not flush and the sound does not come out of the sound system that the church is using with it. While I have it playing and I unplug the cable sound comes out of the laptop, (so it's not muted). When I plug the cable back in as far as it goes, sound stops in the laptop but does not come out of the sound system like it did with the Toshiba. fireberd suggested trying another cable and I'm search of one to see if it's just this cable.
