last windows 11 update installed a new bios but impossible to boot after bitlocker blocked
Vostro 5515
hello community,
big problem here, i have a vostro 5515 and recently updated it to windows 11. all was fine but yesterday windows proposed an update, which was a bios update (1.11.1) but when i was installed, it rebooted but blocked on bitlocker code request !!!!! i never activated this bitlocker thing i don't even know what it is !!!
so now i have a blocked system, thank you windows and dell for this wonderfull present !
so, what do i do now ? i tried to downgrade to 1.9 bios but it doesn't change anything !
Can we just stop the safety race so we can just use our systems ??
thanks for your help

3 Dell Vostro 5515 have done this in our company, we have sold a few of these to our customers also.....thankfully we mostly sell HP because this is just fecking stupid. All these updated automatically without warning to disable Bitlocker, why should I have to do this! Wont be selling dells anymore!

hello minimonkey
that's crazy... and no solution or compensation from dell... i lost my system, apps, data just because of their poorly managed process and excess of security
that was my last dell, and i will make that story known everywhere i can

if you don't use any pro or edu microsoft account on your machine, i think you can't find the key ?

well i unlocked it... just to let you know, if you are using a microsoft account pro or edu with azure active directory inside, you can directly connect to azure active directory and serach in it for the devices you used to connect to this account... the bitlocker key is there. no need to have been using an email as account for windows, just beeing using one on your machine... and directly go to the azure active directory, not on the url told by the bitlocker blue screen ! this one told me that my microsoft account wasn't existing !! pffffffffff

I got the same problem after the latest BIOS update 1.11.1 was updated automatically by Dell on my laptop in august 2022 (dell 5515, Windows 11 Professional).
The problem was solved by rolling back BIOS version to the previous version.
After resetting to the previous BIOS version, I could restart the laptop and did not get the blue-white bitlocker recovery key screen anymore. In order to avoid this happening again, I deactivated the bitlocker feature under security settings (see below).
If you can´t reach the "Rollback BIOS version" option by pressing F2 several times when the laptop is starting up, you can try the following (works on Dell 5515):
Switch off the laptop.
Remove the power cable.
When the laptop is switched off: Hold down CTRL + ESC at the same time as you insert the power cable. Now the laptop should start up automatically. You come to another BIOS menu. There you can see the option "Rollback BIOS version". Please note: You must rollback to the version before 1.11.1
After rolling back the BIOS version, restart the laptop again. Now the bitlocker recovery key screen should no longer come up.
In order to turn off the bitlocker function:
=> Control Panel => System & Security => Bitlocker Drive Encryption. Select Turn Off Bitlocker.
