Laptop Still Uses Built-in Mic Even When Earphones Are Plugged In
I have Dell Vostro 3568, Windows 10 (64bit).
Originally, I was using the Realtek High Definition Audio driver (with Waves MaxxAudio), but it had two major issues:
Earphones (TRRS) were not detected properly- plugging in earphones didn't switch the audio output, and sound continued playing through the laptop speakers.
The system continued to use the built-in laptop microphone, even when earphones with a mic were connected.
Because of these issues, I uninstalled the Realtek HD driver and switched to the default "High Definition Audio Device" driver provided by Windows.
With this driver:
✅ The first issue was resolved -Audio now switches correctly between speakers and earphones.
❌ However, the second issue persists - the mic still doesn’t switch to the earphone mic.
Now, under the Playback tab, I see:
Speakers
Headphones
(It displays 'Headphones' even though I’m using earphones. the kind that typically come with phones and use a TRRS plug)
In the Recording tab:
Only
Microphone
(the built-in laptop mic) is listed
The audio output switching works perfectly now, and I can manually shift between output devices. However, the microphone still doesn’t detect the earphones' mic.
Can anybody help!!
