I replaced my battery 3 days ago, and it is shutting down automatically.

Question

I bought this new M5Y1K battery from a local reseller (recommended by someone I trust). He said it's an original battery, and it looks original because of the box and packaging. I checked YouTube for Dell battery unboxing videos, and the packaging was the same in those videos. Now, the problem is my laptop is shutting down automatically. I checked the battery health, and it is totally fine.

After the first charge, it shut down automatically at 56%. Then I charged it fully, and again it shut down at 31%. On the third charge, it shut down at 29%, and on the fourth charge, it shut down at 30%. One thing I want to mention here is that I checked the battery report, and these percentages are not matching. For example, the second time it shut down at 31% (on screen), but in the report, the battery suspended at 51%. The last time it shut down at 30% (on screen), but the report says 41%.

Look at the battery icon on the screen; it says 34%, and the laptop shut down after about 15 minutes. Now look at the battery report: it says the battery suspended at 41%. Also, check that sudden jump in mWh.

I am not able to understand why this is happening. Is there anything wrong with the battery? I have tried all the possible solutions available on the internet, such as changing the power settings, updating drivers, and checking calibration. I haven't updated my BIOS, though.

I am sharing the battery details. Let me know if you guys think it's a fake battery.

Also, I am thinking of upgrading its RAM and HDD to an SSD, so let me know if it will be worth it. I bought this laptop in June 2018, so it's been a few years since I've been using it.

That's not surprising, given the age of the 'new' battery, which was made in 2017, so it's about seven years old.

That was your original battery (741 is April 2017). The new one is 25P, which is May 2022.  It's not as old as the original, but it's still 2+ years old before you start using it.

Check with your supplier to see if they'll replace the battery under whatever warranty they offered. The battery is about 20% behind its design capacity -- and while a few charge-discharge cycles may close that gap slightly, the battery is unlikely to reach its design capacity at any point.

@ejn63​ I talked with him and he said he will replace the battery. Thank you for being so helpful. One more thing, can you tell me if there is anything I should check when I get the replacement battery? If the replacement battery also has a problem, it would be hard for me to replace it again.

Ask for that alphanumeric string containing the numbers I referenced above. That three digit field is year month day so you'll know how old the battery is.

Anything older than 12 months -- pass and buy elsewhere.

@ejn63​ Now It's 100%, 41440 MWh, But in the first battery the current charge capacity was also 41440 MWH, it's only after a week it dropped to 34000 something MWh.

If this is another battery from 2017, you may be better off finding a supplier of third party batteries that are of more recent manufacture.

Here's the full number - KRMR90YLLC0025PC9KJA06 also, the supplier said you have a 1-year warranty and can replace it anytime within the time, however, if the same issue persists that means the problem is in your laptop. and I am facing the same issue.
