HDD to SSD

Hi I recently installed a SSD into my dell vostro 3590 and made it the C drive that has my OS. When I put my old HDD back it said I did not have permission to access my old user files, I checked how to fix that but it worked only partially as I still don't have access to all my files and when I wanted to boot from my old HDD again, after changing the settings back to RAID, I got the "inaccessible boot device" BSOD. Will doing a windows install on the HDD and saving the files and settings, save the files and everything to a folder on the drive so I can still access everything?

I will assume you already tried this?

  1. Locate the Drive/Folder/File: Find the specific item you're having trouble accessing
  2. Open Properties: Right-click the item and select "Properties"
  3. Navigate to Security: Go to the "Security" tab
  4. Advanced Settings: Click "Advanced"
  5. Change Owner: Click "Change" next to "Owner"
  6. Add "Everyone": Click "Advanced" -> "Find Now" -> Select "Everyone" and click "OK".
  7. Replace Permissions: Check the box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and click "OK".
  8. Add Administrators: Click "Edit" -> "Add" -> "Advanced" -> "Find Now" -> Select "Administrators" and click "OK"
  9. Grant Full Control: In the "Permissions for Administrators" section, select "Full control" and click "OK".
  10. Apply Changes: Click "OK" on all open windows to apply the changes.
  11. Restart (if needed): Sometimes a restart is needed for the changes to take effect.

Change back to AHCI for the old drive if that was the original setting for the boot issue.

@Baxtron the original HDD was set to RAID, had to change that setting in the BIOS as i could not pick up the SSD i wanted to use for the new installation. The problem i had with the HDD now and the folders was i couldn't see all my folders even after i did the permission settings for the user folder that has all the other folders and files under it, but after following your steps to make everyone the owner I think i got everything sorted as there was some files that didn't want to take the permissions after i said it should inherit and maybe the folders i was looking for had one more folder step i think i was missing but at least i found what i was looking for now and confirmed with those other files that permissions are no longer an issue
