Dell Vostro 5490 Display Issue - Shadows at Bottom Left Corner and Video Card Replacement
Hi Dell Community,
I own a Dell Vostro 5490 that's been experiencing a peculiar display issue. When I reduce the screen brightness to its lowest setting, two tiny shadows appear at the bottom left corner of the screen. These shadows are barely visible at higher brightness levels.
I've already tried updating the graphics drivers, adjusting display settings, and troubleshooting other potential causes, but the issue persists. I'm concerned that this might be a video card-related problem, especially considering the integrated nature of video cards in most laptops.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a replacement video card for my Dell Vostro 5490 on the Dell website. Does anyone know where I could find a compatible video card or if it's even possible to replace the video card on this model?
Any advice on troubleshooting this display issue or finding a replacement video card would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Partha

There is no video card to replace, but it's unlikely the GPU is at fault. It sounds either like a bad backlight (which means a display replacement) or the power supply to the backlight (which means the same as a GPU failure -- a replacement system board).
The fact that it's brightness dependent and OK at higher brightness suggests it's the backlight that's at fault, so if you're set on repair, the screen would be the first thing to replace.

@ejn63 Thank you so much for your reply. What about changing the motherboard altogether? The computer has other issues too.

If you have to replace both the mainboard and the screen, the two parts together will wind up close to the total value of the system -- only you can decide whether a repair is cost-effective. If you have to pay for labor on top of that, consider replacing the system.
