Dell Vostro 3510 no USB-C HDMI output.

Hello,

I have new dell vostro 3510 and would like to connect external monitor using I-tec nano dock:

https://i-tec.pro/en/produkt/c31nanodockvgapd-2/

I have installed driver for docking station and also updated all drivers with SupportAssist (AMD Graphic driver was also updated), but when monitor is connected to HDMI port in this docking station I have no signal. When I connect this docking station to lenovo laptop (with intel graphics) then I have display. What could be the problem with this laptop, how could I troubleshoot this?

If you're experiencing issues with HDMI output on your Dell Vostro 3510 when connected to the I-tec Nano Dock, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take:

  1. Check HDMI Cable and Connection:

    • Ensure that the HDMI cable you are using is in good condition and properly connected to both the docking station and the external monitor.
  2. Update Dell Vostro 3510 BIOS:

    • Check if there's a BIOS update available for your Dell Vostro 3510 on the Dell support website. Sometimes, BIOS updates address compatibility issues with external devices.
  3. Update Docking Station Firmware:

    • Check if there's a firmware update available for the I-tec Nano Dock on the manufacturer's website. Updating the firmware can improve compatibility.
  4. Check Display Settings:

    • Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings." Make sure that the external monitor is recognized and configured correctly in the display settings.
  5. Multiple Display Modes:

    • Experiment with different display modes, such as extending or duplicating the display, to see if the external monitor becomes active.
  6. AMD Graphics Settings:

    • Open the AMD Radeon Graphics settings and check if there are specific settings related to external displays. Adjust the settings as needed.
  7. Check AMD Graphics Control Panel:

    • Open the AMD Graphics Control Panel and ensure that the correct display output is selected. You may need to set the HDMI output as the primary display.
  8. Windows Display Driver Settings:

    • Open the "Device Manager," locate the AMD graphics driver, and check if it's working correctly. You may try updating or rolling back the driver if necessary.
  9. Test Different HDMI Ports:

    • If the docking station has multiple HDMI ports, try connecting the HDMI cable to a different port to see if that resolves the issue.
  10. Check Power Settings:

    • Make sure that the power settings on the Dell Vostro 3510 are not causing the HDMI port to power down. Adjust power settings to ensure that the laptop stays awake when connected to the docking station.
  11. Contact Dell Support:

    • If the issue persists, it's advisable to contact Dell support for further assistance. They may have specific troubleshooting steps for your model or be aware of any known issues.

By systematically going through these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with HDMI output on your Dell Vostro 3510 when connected to the I-tec Nano Dock.

Let's verify the model of the system first.  The Vostro 3510 has either Intel graphics or an optional nVidia MX350 GPU -- if you have AMD graphics, you have some other model.

There's no mention in the service manual about video output over USB in the Vostro 3525 -- the system likely does not have native support for video out.  You may be able to use a Displaylink USB adapter with a Displaylink driver, but you'll need to see whether the dock you have supports this (the price listed in the link you posted suggests it does not).

Thank you for explanation, so is there any specific USB dock that would be compatible with this vostro model?

It depends on what you're looking to connect;  the system here will be the limiting factor, since a dock isn't going to enable features the system doesn't have.

If your goal is multiple external monitor support, you need to consider a system with a more robust feature set than the one you have first.

We might have the same issue as you do while we have Vostro 3530. We have multiple different brands of USB-C dock, like j5Create, Baseus, UGreen, etc. When we connect these docks to the USB-C port of the Vostro 3530, all devices connected to the docks work, except the video. And the video does not work regardless of if I am connecting the monitor with HDMI or VGA through the docks.

In Device Manager, I have a USB device with an error "Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failure)". Same docks connected to other Vostro like 7620, 5620 and they are all working fine.

I have patched the Vostro with latest Windows 11 patches and Dell BIOS/drivers.

Note that if I use a dock with a USB 3.0 USB-B connector, everything works fine.

I have a support ticket with Dell but we couldn't figure out a solution yet.

Did you end up resolving your issue please?
