Dell Vostro 15 7510 - Is there any way to find/display the CPU fan speed?

Hi,

My Vostro 7510 (running Windows 10) has been shutting down randomly, and I think that it is because it is intermittently have high temperatures.

I have Speedfan installed, and it shows the temps for the CPU cores, but it is NOT showing any of the fan speed information.

I've also tried HWMonitor, FanContro, and also Dell Power Management and none of them is showing any fan information.  I can't find any fan information in the Vostro BIOS either.

I am traveling so I haven't had a chance to try to open up the laptop to look internally, so I was wondering if there is any way to determine if the fan is running?

Please advise?

Thanks!

Hi - I just found info about the Dell diagnostics, by pressing the F12 key during boot, and so I just ran the tests, and it is pretty cool and I never realized those were available.

Anyway in the Advanced tests, there are options for testing the CPU and GPU fans explicitly, and I just ran those and they were both successful.

FYI, I don't remember which log files I saw them in, but I could've sworn that when I was looking around the laptop, I did see a lot file that had messages that said the laptop was shutdown due to high temps, so I am sure that that (shutdowns) were happening.

So at this point, I am glad that the internal fan tests were successful, but I am not 100% why the high temp shutdowns were occurring.

FYI I did receive some "duster" air cans last night and blew out the laptop last night.  Perhaps doing that fixed whatever the problem was and maybe that is why the fan tests are good this morning?

Anyway, I will keep an eye on the laptop and post back if something changes.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi,

So, looking at the "Charts" in Speedfan, the thing that are still spikes in the temp, for all of the cores, at various times, up to about 70C.

Is that normal for the Vostros?

FYI, l use a monitor and not the laptop display, so I have the laptop semi-opened, kind of stood up like an inverted "V", so the vents on the bottom of the laptop are facing upwards, since hot air rises.

Also the power control in the task bar is set to "Best battery life".

FYI I was able to open up the Vostro, and was able to confirm that the fans ARE spinning, so a non-working fan is NOT the problem.

At this point, I am not sure what IS the problem.
