can't acces to bios dell vostro 15

I am reaching out to you regarding an issue I've encountered with a recently purchased laptop through a peer-to-peer selling website. Unfortunately, I am facing a major hurdle in attempting to format the computer.

When I try to reset the computer to factory settings, it prompts me for an authentication password which I do not possess. Since this computer was bought second-hand, I did not receive any information regarding an authentication password from the seller.

I am currently at a loss on how to proceed, and I am uncertain how to resolve this issue. Therefore, I am seeking your assistance in finding a solution to this matter.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with instructions on how to bypass this authentication password or completely reset the computer so that I can use it as intended.

Thank you in advance for your support and guidance in this matter. I am available to provide any additional information you may require.

Best regards,

If your seller cannot provide the password, return the system to them for a refund.  Otherwise, add the cost of a replacement system board to the purchase price of the system, as that's what you're going to need.

@bader9000  - Exactly which Vostro 15?

You might try doing a clean install of Windows from USB rather than a Reset.  Use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to create a USB for Win 10 or Win 11 (assuming this PC model supports Win 11).  You can do this on any PC.

Plug the Windows USB stick into Vostro with power fully off. Then plug power adapter into PC and connect it to wall outlet. Power PC on and tap F12 when you see the Dell splash screen to open the menu. Select option to boot from USB to launch the installation.

Assuming you're talking about the BIOS/boot password, you need to reset the BIOS flash by removing the coin cell battery if it has one, or the main battery if it doesn't. You're talking about a password prompt before Windows, right after you turn it on, right? That can only be cleared by clearing the BIOS to default, which can only be done by removing power to it. The Dell service manual will show you how to open your specific Vostro model and how to remove the battery. It's not hard if you follow the guide.

The password is stored in EEPROM -- removing the battery (main or reserve) will do nothing.
