Availability of higher resolutions, Vostro 3520
I'd like to continue to use my Dell U2515H monitor in its resolution 2560x1440p. The same monitor worked perfectly fine with this resolution with my old laptop, that is now 11 (!) years old, also a Dell product, an Inspirion 17 R SE. Why would my new machine not allow me to set up the same resolution. The cable is the same, the monitor is the same, the Graphics card should allow it. Please help :)

The HDMI port on the 3000 series is capable of only FHD (1920X1080).

@ejn63 That is not true, as I have already access to 2048x1152. There must be a way to alter the resolution manually. HDMI port is 1.4, and as such should be even capable of 4K. HDMI 1.3 already mastered 2560x1440.

That is not true. There is difference between the maximum specifications in theory and the actual wiring specifications from manufacturer for a stable performance. See the HDMI specs for your system below.
The solution is using USB-C port if your system has one.

@Chino de Oro No, it has no Type-C port. However the resolution is not limited to FullHD, I don't it...

While the custom resolutions can be done, it is not supported by Dell tested and validated. It's a scale down designs on basic tier (3000 series) to entice customers to those full options in mid-range and high-end tiers.

@Chino de Oro Any help, how to get there? I was just in contact with Dell support – not supportive. I told them several times, my laptop handles this curious resolution (2048x1152), recommends it even, and they repeatedly stated, that the maximum is 1920x1080...

On a desktop, you can upgrade hardware to achieve your video preference. On a laptop, not so much.

@Chino de Oro Obviously, but it is probably not the fault of the hardware, but of the software.

No fault of neither it works as design because Dell set the resolution limit on HDMI port as is. If gaining higher resolution is worthy of investment to you, look into docking station with DisplayLink USB 3 connection.
