Vostro 430, disable GTS 240, enable onboard DVI-I
Hi there,
I have a Dell Vostro 430 Mini Tower bought several years ago and this has nVidia GTS 240. This started to make huge rattling nose and when I checked, it was getting extremely hot. I have removed the heat sink cover, but it still runs the fan at very high speed and trips the display off before I could login.
If I remove the card from PCIe slot, and connect the display to DVI-I integrated (onboard) port, there's no display coming out of this and the system beeps 6 times, indicating Video BIOS Test failure.
Are there any replacement GPUs available now for DDR3 PCIe x16 ?
How do I enable the Onboard DVI display, so that I can get going..
BIOS only has, PCIE/PCI & PCI/PCIE as default boot display options.
Thanks,
Vasanth

The 430 uses Intel® H57 Express chipset and specifically says Nvidia Cards work. 6 beeps = DEAD video card. This card should be removed and thrown away. 5 beeps = BAD DL2032 cmos battery.
Much newer cards work fine in much older Dells.

I DO NOT BELIEVE that ANY R series Cards Like RX430 etc from AMD will EVER WORK.
Short versions of GT1030 or 1050 or 1050TI will work fine.
GDDR5 PNY Dell card should be no issue whatsoever.

The settings for video are explained in the service manual as the following...I believe that PCI is the integrated video and PCIE is the add on video card. The PSU is 350W and you could go with something like a GTX 1050 which only requires a 300W PSU. However keep n mind that the Vostro 430 is really getting up there in years so how much do you want to spend on a video card when you could put that toward a new system.
Sets the primary video controller when there are more than one video
controllers in the computer.
PCI/PCIE
PCIE/PC

Hi JOcean,
No. PCI/PCIE doesn't help.
- It beeps six times when the DVI is connected to onboard slot & Graphics card removed from PCIE slot.
- If the Graphics card is inserted into PCIE Slot and DVI is connected to on-board, there's no display out.
- If the DVI is connected to Graphics Card, then it automatically switches to PCIE since there's no card is found in PCI slot.
There's no option in the BIOS Integral Devices to Enable the Onboard Video Controller.
GTX 1050 - This seems GDDR5 and PCI Express 3.0
But Vostro 430 has PCI Express (probably the initial version) and DDR3. Would GTX1050 be still compatible?
Thanks,
