Vostro 400 desktop not booting - amber light
Hi,
I have Dell Vostro 400 pc. Admittedly very old from 2004. I noticed that for a few days I'd put the pc to sleep but it would switch off. However, the other day, when I power the PC up, on the power button there is a faint (and not fully lightened) amber light. I hear a short whir, like you get when a PC powers up, but nothing further. There are no beeps.
Any idea what is wrong and would this would be hard drive related?

Try taking out the CMOS battery and put it back in. Check the voltage or buy a new one. These are very easy to find as they are sold in Walmart and even Dollar Tree.
Is there anything on the screen?
Unplug the system for at least 30 seconds and plug it back in.
If nothing above was helpful, you may need a new CPU.
Sleep mode can give amber lights on certain systems, but should resolve after pressing the power button.

Unlikely it's the CPU.
I agree with changing size 2032 CMOS battery.
Blinking amber can mean bad PSU.
Solid amber can mean bad MB or MB component.
