Vostro 3470, second monitor detected but black screen

I have recently purchased the Dell Vostro 3470, with 2 new monitors, 1 monitor is connected HDMI to HDMI and works fine, the second is connected via HDMI to VGA. both are detected and the system seems to think they are both there, but the monitor connected via VGA is actually just blank. When I got to display settings it tells me there are 2 monitors, and when I move my mouse it gets lost on the second screen, but nothing is being displayed. I've tried changing the lead, and even changing the monitors round, but no joy, always the one connect via VGA to HDMI is always just black I am at my wits end I do not know what else to try, please help

Drivers are required when you have more than 1 monitor.

The base VGA driver does not support 2 monitors.

Dell Vostro 3470, windows 10 no less, but are  you using adapters (I have like 20 in box)

is this the 3470 SFF PC?

you never said what is inside this PC, at all, desktops are "vast things inside" unlike a notepad.

for sure tell  if it has a video card.  and if yes, exactly which one, dell sells many cards, as do others that sell DELL PCs add vast types to cards to any desktop .

the SFF has a VGA and 1 HDMI

what does this mean

answering for NO low profile SFF GPU cards present ( I tossed the magic coin landed here)

"1 monitor is connected HDMI to HDMI and works fine,

the second is connected via HDMI to VGA"????????????  what does this mean?     an"adapter?"

to use  any "this type" adapter, (i'm savvy here) you need VGA to HDMI (told backwards above)

the Adapter must be ACTIVE to do that, means electronics chip logic inside, to create HDMI> from VGA>

if just typo please correct it or say so.

no monitors stated at all. just monitors. and the models have suffix letters telling me what ports IT REALLY HAS.

is this your SFF PC, and only those ports used , and nothing at X and X?

the TV converter it is called,  and is complex device.

also learn this fact on such converters.

VGA has no power pins to run any chips in any adapter.

and worse yet, HDMI has power pin 18 and 99% of devices on that end are limited to only 50mA of power.

unlike far better DP .DISPLAYPORT.

That means the best adapters made use a  USB port just for POWER 5vdc and 500mA there.

so buying the correct adapter is hard, here. for SURE>( but not now I told you)

since it is unstated monitor , no HDMI spec, most specs on mon. do not even disclose  the power pin spec. on pin18 .

the HDMI standard calls out 55mA max. (wiki that and see)

learn this too.

the PC knows the port port is alive,  (I can do that even with a dummy adapter easy) but it will think the port is active easy but if data is dead, live HDMI data is dead, there will be no video.

On some adaptors there 3 or more chips.  one may  be just for eDID , identification but the other  HDMI chip is dead, do to NO POWER (or super weak)

the  DP to VGA is shown here,  and you can see how important power is (and VGA has none)

best of all never post any post about GPU video ,lacking all facts, for sure unseen by me ADAPTERS.

all we have is one clue. (hdmi/vga)  and I bet this is it.
